Ruta Pehuenche

The Pehuenche Route is an ecotourism and outdoor recreation circuit located in one of Chile’s most pristine territories, surrounded by active volcanoes and ancient araucaria forests. The initiative aims to position the Araucanía region as a world-class tourism destination by integrating nature, culture, and local development. The route connects protected natural areas with Mapuche Pehuenche communities, strengthening Indigenous rural tourism through a contemporary and multicultural approach. The project is organized around five volcanoes and three strategic hubs—Conguillío, Quinquén, and Pata Choique—which together structure a territorial network of outstanding scenic and cultural value. Beyond tourism, the proposal promotes a sustainable development strategy based on circular economies and respect for Indigenous cultures. It also seeks to provide local communities with opportunities for economic growth, recognizing their ancestral connection to the land while positioning Chile as a global leader in sustainable tourism and a Biosphere Reserve destination.
